CONTENT OF THE COURSE

In this four-part course, you will learn techniques to adjust, and refine various trouser patterns. We’ll start by perfecting fit and basic shapes, then move on to creative designs such as wrap trousers or knit trousers with cuffs. In the final lesson, you’ll work on a complex or self-chosen design to put your new skills into practice!

Lesson 1: Basic Trouser Pattern & Solving Fit Issues

You will learn:

  • How to identify and fix common fit issues, such as wrinkles at the hips or crotch, knee adjustments, or a tight waistband.
  • Designing a simple waistband and facings for a neat finish and fly closure.
  • Basic shape adjustments: how to modify straight legs into wide, slim-fit, or tapered styles.

Lesson 2: Wrap Trousers & Wide-Leg Styles

In this lesson, you’ll explore creative variations of the basic pattern. You will learn:

  • How to draft and adjust wrap trousers with an overlap on the front panel.
  • Designing wide-leg trousers, such as palazzos or culottes, with a flowing fit.
  • Adjusting lengths and adding stylish details, such as slits in the trouser legs.

Lesson 3: Knit Trousers & Cuffs

Comfort takes center stage in this lesson. You will learn:

  • Designing knit trousers, including an elastic waistband and cuffs at the hems.
  • How to draft patterns for stretch fabrics while ensuring a proper fit.
  • Adding details such as pockets, decorative seams, or ribbed hems.

Lesson 4: Drafting a Complex Design

The final lesson focuses on translating your own idea or a complex design into a professional pattern. Bring your inspiration (a photo, a Pinterest design, or your own sketch) and learn:

  • How to turn your idea into a usable pattern.
  • Combining techniques from previous lessons, such as wrap details, pleats, and cuffs.
  • Perfecting your design for a polished and professional end result.
