Pattern Drafting Skills | Skirt

In this three-part course, you will learn the techniques to adjust, and refine various skirt patterns. Starting with the basics, you’ll progress to more complex designs. In the final lesson, you’ll even work on a design of your choice to put your skills into practice!

Lesson 1: Basic Skirt Patterns & Waistline Finishes

You will learn:

• Basic adjustments such as lengthening, shortening, narrowing, and widening skirts.
• Drafting facings and waistbands for a professional finish.
• How to adjust the waistline for a perfect fit.
• Drafting simple skirt patterns: Pencil Skirt, A-line Skirt, and Circle Skirts (half and full circle).

Lesson 2: Creative Skirts – Pleats & Ruffles

In the second lesson, you’ll dive into creative techniques. You will learn:

• Drafting pleats: Box pleats, knife pleats, round pleats, and single pleats.
• Designing skirts with ruffles: Creating ruffles and incorporating them into a pattern, including layered designs.
• Creating and adjusting a Wrap Skirt, including overlap and waistband details.

Lesson 3: Drafting a Complex Design

In the final lesson, you’ll work on a more advanced skirt. You can bring a design of your choice (from Pinterest, a photo, or your own sketch). Together, we’ll create the pattern and you’ll learn:

• How to translate complex design elements into a pattern.
• How to build your pattern step by step.
• Combining techniques from previous lessons to achieve a professional result.
