CONTENT OF THE COURSE

In this comprehensive five-part course, you will learn step-by-step how to adjust, and perfect various types of tops. From solving fit issues to adding advanced details such as neckline variations, pockets, sleeve slits, and asymmetrical designs, this course focuses on technique and craftsmanship. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to create patterns for tops that fit perfectly and align with your personal style.

Lesson 1: Basic Pattern & Improving Fit

You will learn:

  • How to solve fit and adjustment issues around the bust, shoulders, and waist.
  • How to alter length and shaping, or create an oversized style.
  • How to move and adjust darts to ensure a perfect fit.

Lesson 2: Sleeveless Tops, Neckline Variations & Pleats

In this lesson, we focus on drafting and refining sleeveless tops and necklines. You will learn:

  • How to draft a sleeveless top and neatly finish the armholes.
  • How to adjust necklines, including drafting rounded, V-shaped, and other neckline variations.
  • How to add facings for the neckline and armholes for a clean finish.
  • How to incorporate pleats into your top for added detail and texture, including downward pleats, waist or back pleats, and shoulder pleats.

Lesson 3: Shirt Details & Sleeves

This lesson focuses on adding detailed elements to tops and shirts. You will learn:

  • How to design a collar and add functional or decorative pockets to a shirt.
  • How to draft a sleeve slit with a binding for a professional finish.
  • How to adjust basic sleeves into various styles, such as fitted or wide sleeves.

Lesson 4: Shoulder Adjustments & Advanced Sleeves

In this lesson, we explore shoulder adjustments and more complex sleeve designs. You will learn:

  • How to modify shoulder shapes for different styles and designs.
  • How to draft creative sleeve types, such as puff sleeves, balloon sleeves, or asymmetrical sleeves.
  • How to create patterns for complex combinations of sleeve and shoulder designs.

Lesson 5: Working on a Complex Design

The final lesson is dedicated to creating a complex design of your choice. Bring your inspiration to class, whether it’s a photo, a Pinterest design, or your own sketch. You will learn:

  • How to translate a complex design into a professional pattern.
  • How to handle seam relocations, asymmetrical shapes, or intricate finishes.
  • How to adapt your design to your personal fit and refine the technical drafting process for a polished result.

Classes are provided in English and Dutch.
