WOMEN OF SCHIEDAM
EXHIBITION
Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (March – September, 2025)
In 2025, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam celebrated 750 years of female influence in the city with the exhibition Vrouwen van Schiedam. The exhibition highlighted the role of women in Schiedam, from historical figures like Neeltje Andries to contemporary female leaders, activists, and community organizers shaping the city today.
Kasaei was selected as one of the ten Schiedam women featured in the exhibition. For this occasion, she created a unique textile wall hanging based on an illustration by Xiaviar Altena, designed around the theme Women of Today. The themes for the illustrations were chosen collaboratively by the participating women, with Kasaei actively contributing to the selection. She translated one of the illustrations into a textile piece, adding her own personal and craft-based interpretation.
In addition, Kasaei led a series of workshops in which she and other Schiedam women translated three additional thematic illustrations into textile wall hangings. This process resulted in a series of textile works that not only celebrate the strength and diversity of Schiedam women but also emphasize collaboration and shared creativity.
Kasaei’s work in Vrouwen van Schiedam combines art, textile, and community engagement, inviting viewers to reflect on the influence, resilience, and contributions of women, both historically and in contemporary society.
