EMBROIDERED PARADOXES
EXHIBITION
Gallery Azadeh, The Hague (November – December 2024)
Kloosterkerk, The Hague ( March – May 2025)
Embroidered Paradoxes is a wearable tapestry project that explores the multifaceted experience of migration, integration, and cultural identity. Through a series of tapestries, Kasaei translates personal stories of migrants into visual narratives that reflect themes such as fear, homesickness, identity crisis, curiosity, and utopia. Each piece combines traditional textile techniques from around the world, including embroidery, mola, appliqué, and digital prints, highlighting the diversity of cultural backgrounds while celebrating the beauty and richness of craftsmanship.
The project invites viewers to reflect on the emotional journey of newcomers as they navigate unfamiliar cultures, adapt to new environments, and find ways to merge their heritage with their present. By weaving together multiple layers of material, symbolism, and technique, Embroidered Paradoxes creates a visually compelling dialogue between personal experience and collective understanding.
