Day 1 Taking Measurements and Drafting a Skirt and Pants Block
In the first lesson, you will learn how to take your measurements and draft a basic skirt and pants block. You will:
Accurately take your measurements and use them to create a skirt block.
Draft a skirt block, including adjustments to the hips, waist, and length.
Create a muslin (test garment) of the skirt to test the fit.
Draft the basic pants block, including the waist, hips, and legs.
Adjust the pattern to enhance the fit of the pants, such as modifying the waistline or altering the length of the legs.
Prepare the pants pattern for the muslin phase in the next lesson.
Adjust the pattern based on the fit, solving common issues like areas that are too tight or too loose.
Day 2 Cutting Fabric, Making a Muslin, and Adjusting Fit Issues + Drafting a Dress Block
In the second lesson, you will cut the fabric and create a muslin for the pants, skirt and draft your dress pattern. You will:
Cut the patterns from fabric and assemble the muslin for each garment.
Identify and solve fit issues during the muslin fitting, such as areas that are too tight or too loose.
Adjust the patterns to refine the fit and create finalized patterns that can be used for future designs.
Draft the basic dress block with special attention to the waist and hips.
Create a muslin of the dress to check the fit.
Adjust the patterns to fix any fit issues, such as a waist that is too loose.
Day 3 Drafting Sleeves (One-Piece and Two-Piece) and Cutting Fabric + Finishing the Dress Block
In this lesson, you will learn how to draft sleeves and prepare your pattern for cutting. Next, we learn how to assemble the muslin for the dress and sleeves and refine the fit. You will:
Begin drafting the sleeve block, including taking measurements and designing sleeves that fit the basic dress block.
Cut the patterns for the dress and sleeves from fabric in preparation for creating a muslin.
Modify the sleeve pattern to suit your preferences, such as adjusting the length or width.
Cut and assemble the muslin for the dress and sleeves.
Identify and address any fit issues in the muslin, such as areas that are too tight or too loose.
Adjust the pattern for the bodice and sleeves to improve the fit, resolving any remaining issues.
Day 4 Final Retouches, Cutting Fabric, Making a Muslin, and Adjusting Fit Issues
In the final lesson, you will cut the fabric and create a muslin for the pants, skirt, dress, and sleeves. You will:
Cut the patterns from fabric and assemble the muslin for each garment.
Identify and solve fit issues during the muslin fitting, such as areas that are too tight or too loose.
Adjust the patterns to refine the fit and create finalized patterns that can be used for future designs.
